It's actually the number of clusters in the FAT that define how long it'll take for the calculator to start up, not how many files there are. It's probably less noticeable on smaller cards, but with a 1GB or 2GB card formatted as FAT32, it does take noticeably longer to start up than if it is formatted as FAT16.

Hmmm... maybe I've formatted all my 2GB cards as FAT16, thinking they were 32. My 50g's are pretty much instant-on. I'll try one the other way to see (when bored and I reach the end of my To-Do list, so not this decade).
