HP Prime - EOL
If I remember correctly, the HP 48 was released in 1990, and EOL was 2000. That's a 10-year lifespan. Because the HP Prime was released in 2013, is EOL scheduled for 2023? I'm considering buying an HP Prime.

Product EOL is never announced years ahead of schedule, even if it were known that far ahead, which almost never happens. It certainly has not been announced for the Prime! If you want to use a Prime, get one. They will only go up in price, not down. A product's price dropping is typically to clear the channels when a new replacement product is coming, so retailers have empty shelves and a real reason to buy the new models when those new ones are introduced. When the Prime is discontinued, you can assume the price for the them will rise pretty quickly, as that will be the end of the line for the end of a long famous line. --Bob Prosperi |

RE: HP Prime - EOL
Another thing to keep in mind is that past models went EOL when the chips inside did so. The Prime G2 was a recent hardware refresh so it should be good for a while.

They told me We no longer have HP Prime Calculators available. You may try checking to any of local/retail store near you. Why do they offer six calculators on their website, not including the Prime? Also, is $139.99 a good price for the Prime (Product description 2AP18AA#ABA, Item model number 2AP18AA#B1S) on Amazon? Why does one end in ABA and the other in B1S? |

This is one of the great all-time unanswered questions, up there with 'what is dark matter?' and 'where does dark energy come from?'. Speculation is that they don't carry it there at the request of some of their larger resellers, but that's just guessing. The "#???" is a region code for the root product model. These 2 codes are described in this post: https://www.hpmuseum.org/forum/thread-15386.html. Note: Even if you don't care about the items in the pkg, where the warranty is from does matter, if you need to have HP service the device. For example, if you live in USA and your product does not end with "#ABA", it is considered 'grey market' and HP US will not provide warranty service for it if needed. If buying the right product for where you live costs a few dollers more, IMHO it's worth it, even though the odds of needing service are indeed low. I'd say $139.99 is a good price. The price for new Prime devices from reliable vendors really doesn't vary much. You may find a better price on eBay, but they are usually not authorized so your warranty again may be a problem. --Bob Prosperi |

I'm a very new Prime user, and surprised by your question ;-) I would like to know if the official manual is still up to date and consistent with the current firmware, especially for a newbee PDF : "HP PRIME GRAPHING CALCULATOR 9.36 MB, Second Edition: September 2016 , 657 pages. --- HP 48GX, Prime G2, 50G, 28S, 15c CE. RE: HP Prime - EOL
Generally, the calculators inbuilt help is more up-to-date than the manual, which is out of date.

But I agree with KeithB, the calculator built-in help has the most up-to-date content. |

A double check on the recently opened package : no CD off course and a _very_ little text on the backside :
http://www.hp.com/go/hpprimesupport where you find the 1st edition and 2nd edition. The 3rd (2017) edition is missing at this address. --- HP 48GX, Prime G2, 50G, 28S, 15c CE. SwissMicros DM42, DM15L A long time ago : 11C, 15C, 28C. |

Tim once dumped out the internal help pages, and there was some work done to present them nicely:
https://www.hpmuseum.org/forum/thread-11458.html Does anyone know if this ever got updated? That would be nice. Cambridge, UK 41CL/DM41X 12/15C/16C DM15/16 17B/II/II+ 28S 42S/DM42 32SII 48GX 50g 35s WP34S PrimeG2 WP43S/pilot/C47 Casio, Rockwell 18R |

It's obviously not bang up to date as V3 was released around the same time as the G2 but barring updates to the CAS in the intervening years, it all appears to be there. |

RE: HP Prime - EOL
Hello,
All the help is in the .hpresource files which are provided with the emulator. I know that I gave some code at some point to someone that wanted to exploit them... These files are generated from .xml files... (english one attached).. Anyone interested in doing anything in this space should contact me and I will be more than happy to help them... Using directly the .hpresource file would be the best long term solution as they are official release files... the .xml files are internal stuff... Cyrille Although I work for the HP calculator group, the views and opinions I post here are my own. I do not speak for HP. |
