Is Torsten Manz's website for his HP-15c emulator safe ? [Yes, it's SAFE]
I tried to enter Torsten Manz's website to download his latest version of the HP-15c emulator for Windows, and WOT (Web of Trust) flagged it as an unsafe website. Does anyone have any input on this situation ?

That means data transfered through this elemets woudn't be encrypted. My calculators - former: CBM PR100, HP41CV, HP11C, HP28S - current: HP48G, HP35S, Prime, DM41X, DM42, HP12C |

Which is actually fine, unless you fear someone might spend a lot of effort to intercept your view of Torsten's web pages... probably an acceptable risk. Oh, and that's also how we all looked at most of the web until just a couple years ago. Nothing to worry about, but Security s/w and even browsers themselves will continue to warn you of the dire situation. --Bob Prosperi |

OK, thanks. As it turns out the download page is secure (https), so there was no problem. There are some images on the page that are not secure, but there is no need to click on them. The downloaded ZIP file passed the scan by my AV software. I also scanned the executable file after extracting from the ZIP file just to be extra safe before running the program.

Btw Web of trust can't be trusted as they sell all your user data and browser history: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WOT_Services

There were several complaints about the usage of non-secure http:// links. I have now updated the simulator homepage and changed allmost all links to https. There are only a few links, e.g. those to the HP handbooks, that are not available via https:.

Is there an older 32-bit version available that will run on my older 32-bit Windows PCs ? Thanks, Michael |

@Michael
Can you please edit the title of your first post to say something like: "Is Torsten Manz's website for his HP-15c emulator safe ? [Yes, it's SAFE]" The reason is so that people casually looking through a listing of post topics don't see the original subject and get concerned for no reason. --Bob Prosperi |

I recently had trouble connecting my DM15L to the Mac application (OS version = Big Sur). Reading the DM15L memory content from the Mac was giving "timeout" errors, very strange and frustrating. Timeout errors were really blocking me using this wonderful developpement environment. The solution I found is simply running the DM15L at 12 MHz (standard is 48 MHz), simply incredible. At least there is a reason to keep this slow mode on the DM15L :-). --- HP 48GX, Prime G2, 50G, 28S, 15c CE. SwissMicros DM42, DM15L A long time ago : 11C, 15C, 28C. |

Furthermore, according to the Voyager Series User Manual, Big Sur has native support for USB-to-serial devices. The Silicon Labs drivers are not needed anymore. I don't have a system running Big Sur, so I can not verify whether this contributes to the timeout issues. If somebody has Big Sur without the Silicon Labs Drivers installed, what is your experience regarding 12 vs. 48 Mhz? |
