CASIO HQ-31, strange calculator/calendar

Anyone know the CASIO HQ-31?
It seems to be a very basic calculator with a time/calendar function.
But i don't know how to set the date or time on this device, and i find no manual online
for it.

I think this should work:

HHMM ADJ/SET for AM

HHMM. ADJ/SET for PM

ADJ/SET to correct the seconds

YYMMDD ADJ/SET if year<2000

YYYYMMDD ADJ/SET if year>1999

But, there is no 24 hour clock i assume? Just AM or PM 12 hour clock?

I must be stupid, but how do i set the alarm?

Yes, there is no 24 hour mode.

Does this work:

slide switch right, then HHMM ALARM

slide switch left: alarm on

slide switch center: alarm off

Very nice. I've also 2 calculators of that time in use (FX-8100 and EL-410).

Is it accurately showing dates on the calendar past 1999? I.e., can you enter 2022 and it's correct?

The date seems working past 1999, i just set 22-04-26, and its showing up correct.
But i dont know about the calendar in the display, how is it supposed to work?

edit: for me in Sweden we use yy-mm-dd format, i.e todays date is 22-04-26, and it seems to work
on the HQ-31.

Yes, that's what I was wondering. I'm assuming the little calendar has a box around the current day or something. Just curious.

BTW, I lived in Lulea for a while, love Sweden!

Hmm, then i wonder if the calendar is working.
Now when i have set the date to 22-04-26, the column marked in the calendar is 2,9,16,23,30.
And these must be the days in the month?

Wow! You know Sweden then! Luleå, thats a cold place in the north of Sweden with lots of snow!

In the U.S, yyyy-mm-dd is called the ISO date.
I have been using that exclusively* for a while now,
it makes the most sense to me.

The marked column should show the sundays, but I assume that you have set the date to April 1922. Have you tried to set the date as "20220427"?

Yes, i have tried to set the date as 20220427, but the machine does not accept this format.
It only accept 220427, and then "adj/set" button.

It seems Casio never thought anybody would use this machine after year 1999, and therefor not did it millennium ready. After all, it must be a machine from mid 70ths or early 80ths i assume.
But i like the HQ-31 anyway, and the clock and alarm works at least!

Watching a video yesterday about a 2002 Toyota Avalon where the clock/calendar built into the central display would not go past 2017 or 2018. It was 'Y2K compliant' but they just thought nobody would use it for more than 15-16 years. I have to wonder how many bits they saved with that decision...

Some Casio and Sharp calculators of that time accept the long format. In case of HQ-31 I would use a simple workaround: "year-28" or in 6 years "year-56" to have the correct display of the sundays.

Just set the date to "940506" for today, to have the correct representation of the sundays.

I'm very impressed of the clock in my HQ-31!
I did set the time and date back in april this year, and still the time is almost spot on!

One strange thing is that the date is also correct, ie 22-09-22 today, but the sundays in the calender is off.
So, if i have set the year to 1922 instead of 2022, how can the date be correct?
EDIT: Forget that i wrote above! Of course the DATE is correct, whatever year i set
Only the DAYS name differs.
