Silver border CV - orignal?

41CV has a silver keyboard border. It is from 1980.

Note the raised profile bevel on the F and the SHIFT keys.

Is the silver border keyboard label an early production CV possibility?

The earliest CV know to exist, is actually 2103A10255 (corrected). This unit has the gold keyboard border and is a TallKey version.

See here my early 41CV :-)
This single tall gold key version seems unique.

This same machine has a gold keyboard border too and the embossed HP-41 CV logo as visible on my home page.

And for the CX fullnut is it A2?

1981 : Starts with a 1, when more than 9999 units where build in one week, they starts with a 5

1982 – 1985 : Starts with a 4

1986 : Starts with a 2

HP-41CX

1983 – 1985 : All CX starts with a 4

In 1985 the change from Full to Halfnuts was during week 22 up to week 26.

Interesting fact from the 1981 HP-41CV production are:

Production runs ins USA (A) from week 3 up to week 13

From week 14 all HP-41CV's where produced in Singapor (S)

Thanks for these notes on the 41 serial numbers CY-CL!!

Despite the 41 very likely being the most thoroughly documented calculator in history, I still learn lots of new stuff about it here, like these s/n notes.

Also I've seen very few of the embossed label units; does anyone know why/when/where this was used for 41 production? I was once told this was a 3rd-party after-market item that was sold, but never confirmed.

So I wonder the serial 2405S40422 I found and mentioned here of a halfnut I got lately and that was bought new and never serviced (relevant part of (German) communication attached). Weird. BTW: Fully working now.

If SN is *A0* it is a C.

If it has a silver border, then it is a C.

I recall border and chin logo being gold = CV or CX

Recently acquired the 41. Have read enough on this forum to wonder about it being a factory transition model or an HP repair mash-up.

So it started life as a C. Thanks all for the above data.

Need a spreadsheet to track the variations and have started one but it looks sparse.

This backside is from a Full Nut. Make a little bit research and you will find out wat is wrong on this 41. Good luck.
