fx-115ES Plus 2nd edition keyboard.

Hi. Just noticed something about my 115ES Plus 2nd Edition.

Compared to the rest of the keyboard, it seems the ON button slightly more recessed. It’s not as raised as the rest of the keys. Is this normal?

This is also the case on my Casio fx-991EX Classwiz so I would say yes that is normal.

Other calculators that I own that also have a recessed ON key include:
HP-48SX
HP-48G
HP-12C
HP-30b (converted to a WP 34S)
Casio fx-115ES Plus

Many calculator models (of all brands) are specifically designed with the ON/Power key recessed, with the goal being to minimize accidental power-on when carrying the unit around (in a backpack, pocket, etc.). The idea is if the unit presses up against something hard, other keys will interfere with the ON key being pressed, thus preventing accidental power-on, and associated unintentional battery drain, clearing of numbers, etc. The concept goes back to earlier days when battery life was far shorter than today's ultra low-power designs that get months of use from a single coin cell.
