HP 50g can't solve equation
HP 50g can't solve equations as its CAS is primitive whereas HP Prime provides a list of Solutions. It can not integrate many expressions as hypergeometric series,Laurent Series and Taylor Series is not implemented in it but is included in the prime.HP Prime's XCAS is infinitely better than HP 50g's childish Erable.

Moreover HP 50g is just useful for calculations as lt has
a dull screen, cheap graphing ,no geometry.

HP 50g is irrelevant and stands too small in front of the beast HP Prime which is like a mathematical computer.

HP 50g can't be compared to the Prime because it has reached the level of Wolfram Alpha.

RE: HP 50g can't solve equation while HP Prime provides list of solutions?
ROOT can solve it on HP 50g.

What's the use it can't provide all of them

Check this list of solutions on HP Prime by substitution its elements to original equation and You will see what only x=2. is truely solution.

x^s-1, s from 1 to x

HP 50g gives incorrect solution 3

Substitute and check you will get 13

Prime gives correct solution. 2.7746 as shown by Wolfram Alpha

To solve it on HP 50g try this

Update: This is wrong answer.

RE: HP 50g can't solve equation
When directly ROOT function is tried answer is 3 which is wrong.

You are right, HP Prime is a perfection.

RE: HP 50g can't solve equation
It is sad to find that correct answer is not available directly in such a high end calc like HP 50g.HP Prime is reliable for solving any equation under the sun as all of its outcomes are known.

Anybody who'd use this calc will use this
solvevx()->MSLV()->Root() and he'll directly get incorrect answer 3.You'd manually need to check all methods to find solution. However fsolve() function on HP Prime acts like a search engine it will try each way and also show it to you.like bijection with change of variable, its solvers are advanced. It does everything for you. Also you get general solution and principal solution both on one click.I have no hate for a device but is there a way out???

:-) HP 50g with EXPAND, HP Prime and Wolfram Alpha are given wrong answer 2.774621...

Check it by substitution.

RE: HP 50g can't solve equation
Function f(x)=sum(x^(s-1),s,1,x)-9 has discontinuity at a point x=3. From the left side of it function has value equal to -5 and from the right side it has value equal to 4.

No one CAS can't solve equation sum(x^(s-1),s,1,x)=9 because it's solution not exist.
