How common are HP 38G with a black screen?
I have seen a 38G with black/grey (rather than blue/green) display & case does not appear to have been opened.

Does anyone have a 38G with black screen?

RE: How common are HP 38G with a black screen?
I've never seen a 38g with black LCD, but could easily have just not noticed, I totally ignored the 38g when it was current. What is the country of origin and s/n? 48GX from Indonesia started coming with black LCD sometime in early 2001, and the 38g was not disco'd until June 2003 so it is feasible.

Interesting, seems clear 38G's did indeed exist, probably from mid-2001 until end of production 2 years later. so they're probably not as uncommon as thought, just never noticed since it's typically not an interesting model, at least for most members here.

Thanks for raising awareness.

Of course, this also creates a small problem for collectors who need to have one of each type...

My particular only reason of interest: It's compatible with the InVision 48 in my collection.
This happens to be the same reason why I now have an overhead projector. Perhaps I should've been a teacher.

So sofar the only 2 known extant 38G with black screen have the same 4 initial serial number digits - What does that say about the likelihood they are the only two on the planet?
