Contemplating using a HP 82002A charger/adapter with a HP 67 in Australia.

I'm thinking of purchasing a HP 82002A 'battery charger'/'AC adapter' for use with a HP 67.

I live in Australia, where the electrical mains power supply is 240 Volts and 50 Hertz.

Based on a photo I saw online, the HP 82002A has the following information inscribed on it:

(a) INPUT-VOLTS AC: Can choose (by way of a slider switch) between two ranges: '86 to 127' and '172 to 254'

(b) HERTZ: 48 to 66

(c) WATTS: 5

(d) The stipulation: "For use with HP calculators rated 0.8W Max."

Based on this information, I'm guessing that I should be able to safely and reliably use the HP 82002A with a HP 67 in Australia, by simply selecting '172 to 254' for the A/C input voltage (as well as, of course, using a US-to-AUS plug adapter).

Is this guess, correct?

Are there any problems or 'gotchas' that I'm overlooking?

If I can use the HP 82002A with a HP 67 here in Australia, it would sure beat having to resort to an AUS-to-US step-down voltage transformer in order to accommodate a US-only HP charger.

In my region (Lisbon, Portugal) the nominal grid voltage is 230VAC and at the moment it is at 232VAC.
My charger input selector is at position "172 to 254V~" and it just gets warm after 8 hours of charging.

The only problem could be the plug compatibility between the charger and the wall outlet in your region of Australia.

I'm pretty sure it is. When I moved to Australia in 1977, I brought my HP-65, which I'd bought in Canada. I can't remember for sure, but I think the charger for the 65 was the 82002A, and I certainly don't remember having to use an autotransformer to charge it, or replacing the adapter with a new one. I'd say it'll be fine.

My HP-35 came from Tasmania, complete with travel case and accessories. The voltage selector switch in the 82002A battery charger was set to 172 to 254 V and the prongs had been bent like / \. All I had to do was sliding the switch to 86 to 127 V position and bending the prongs back to | | with a pliers. You'll probably have to do otherwise.

Your respective experiences give me cause to be confident that the 82002A battery charger can be used successfully with a HP 67.

As soon as I get my hands on a 82002A, I'll try it out with the HP 67 and report back to the forum.

Well, long time ago my HP-67 stop working because the batteries themselves stop receiving charge, and the problem could only be solved by replacing them with a new battery pack.
In this case, the charger alone will not be enough.

Good point! I'll be sure to keep it in mind when testing the 82002A charger with the HP 67.
