Had a little Good Luck Today
I'm working on an HP-41c.

It was purchased as a "Not Tested" so I knew not to expect much. When I opened up the battery compartment at least there weren't four "exploded" batteries!

There was however more than just a little corrosion on the flex pcb. I did a thorough thumbnail cleaning per USAF technical documentation (wink) and installed a fresh set of batteries.

Upon pressing the [ON]... Nothing (sad face) so I just put in on the arm of my chair and watched some Olympics.

After an hour or so just for kicks I picked it up and hit the [ON] button it worked. I received the "Memory Cleared" message! I've been playing during the commercials and it feels like 1984 all over again!

Don't forget to mess with your toys, that why you bought them.

RE: Had a little Good Luck Today
Now that's the kind of pleasant surprise I like!
Likely intermittent battery contact. Maybe some residual corrosion still there.
Try a thorough brush scrub with deoxit.
