HP01 Watch
I recently inherited an HP01 watch from my uncle, it worked for a bit after replacing the batteries, but start flashing random numbers and letters before shutting off completely. I’ve read where it’s really hard to find parts and to find someone that will work on these and was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction?

RE: HP01 Watch
Hello,

from what you describe I would suspect nothing more serious than bad or slightly corroded battery contacts. A good watchmaker should be able to clean whatever is needed without causing damage.

If that does not help then there is a repair kit available (and optional installation service) here: http://www.panamatik.de/html/hp-01_repair_kit.html Not cheap, but certainly worth it, especially if the watch means something to you.

Regards
Max

RE: HP01 Watch
No parts available on this ~50 year old watch.

The IC’s sealed internally in a ceramic sandwich with vias connecting the IC’s to the external world.

Three battery pads with gold traces which can be compromised by leaking or outgassing batteries.

There are a few external components; trimming capacitor, LED block, 784kHz quartz crystal, case back piezo contacts.

For a Panamatik replacement one needs to harvest the LED block, the keyboard insulator.

For a preliminary look (youtube) check out this presentation at HHC2016:

HP 01 Cricket

Panamatik will except your HP01 and remove the LED block (i think he still does this).
