Got an as new HP 49G
Hi.
I got me a nice never used HP 49G with french handbooks and some cables and adaptors for RS232.

My question is: How do I transfer programms from my MAC or PC (only USB) to this old RS232 interface? Are there any adaptors / converters from RS232 to USB and do they work with HP 49G? If yes, which ones? Also: Does the 49G have IR?

RE: Got an as new HP 49G
I just checked http://www.parallax.com. They have an usb to rs232 adaptor for about 25$ US.

You may want to check with digikey, mouser or other sites for the adapter.

The adapters generally come with a FTDI chip or Prolific chip.

Some of the adapters work with regular RS232 while others deal with 5 volts.

Good luck. If your rs232 cable plugs directly into the HP 49, then you are in posession
of a hard to find cable.

Thx for all the information!

The cable and two adapters came with the original packaging and handbook. It was some kind of "back to school deal" with an included connection set afaik.

I don't know where you are located, but if in Europe, Mouser has very good service. They handle all the paperwork, FedEx just shows up in a day or two with your package.

It ain't OVER 'till it's 2 PICK

RE: Got an as new HP 49G
I've used a cheap (2,84€) Aliexpress adapter (Adaptateur USB 2.0 à RS232 RS-232 série PL2303, convertisseur de câble pour Win 7 8, convertisseur à grande vitesse, accessoires de connecteur d'ordinateur) with success, including updating several HP 49G to ROM 2.10

I also have https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B0007T27H8 which works equally well for me.

For those who have a desktop PC (not a laptop or notebook) often on the motherboards there is still the pidinatura to connect a native serial port, without USB adapters.
