Weird behavior HP-33S C key

A recently acquired HP-33S shows weird behavior.

After the calculator is turned on the C key stops responding
after about 30 seconds. All other keys still respond.
Also turning off the calculator by shift-C is no longer possible.

When the calculator is turned off by the shift-C combination
(within 30 seconds), it can be turned on again by the C key within 30 seconds.

Only a hard reset brings the C key temporarily back to live.

The calculator has fresh batteries.

Well that is a really weird problem.
Then again, the HP-33S is a really weird looking calculator...

Yes, but despite it weird looks, one of my favourites. Fast, reliable and feels good in the hand.

As a calculator, I like its functionality and build quality quite a lot too. Call me shallow but I still can't get get over its appearance. I also have trouble finding functions because of the color scheme and clutter of the keyboard labels.

I do have a HP 35s, which I find visually superior in every way. If it only had rewritable Flash memory for its firmware...

Well, I just ordered a 35s to check this...I was needing an excuse to buy one anyway...my wife is gonna kill me.... again...

Doesn't matter really imo; if one is used to this series of calcs and out of money for a 32SII, the 35S is a must-have. Learning about the bugs is a must, too, unfortunately. I'm glad I've kept my 35S from 2007 to use at places I wouldn't want to bring any of my 32SIIs. If only there was a 35SII :-/. C'mon HP, have Kinpo debug it, it cannot cost a fortune!

Couldn't agree more: a speedier and less buggier 35S would make it perfect. I like the WP-34S also a lot but it stays unfortunate that HP is currently not releasing an update.
