Terminal window capacity?

I wrote a little program to fill the terminal window to try to determine how many characters can be displayed before the top scrolls off.

I came up with 2044 if I include single byte line feeds for each line I displayed. Maybe 2048 is the max??

Does anyone know the actual figure?
