41CV Halfnut serial No.
under the collector's corner on the museum's web page

http://www.hpmuseum.org/collect.htm#numbers

there is an note in the section of the earliest serial numbers, saying that the earliest Halfnut version of the 41CV found is 2511… So I was a bit surprised when seeing this since I have a 41CV Halfnut with serial number starting 2136… Any idea how to explain this?

Without looking up serial numbers HP was in the habit of repairing older units with newer tech. Your CV might be one of those: a direct swap of the old board and keyboard but retaining the back shell and module block.

Thanks Geoff, that might be the reason. I was wondering about that because according to the seller's information the unit has never been repaired … but who knows how trustworthy this statement is …

The Museum's list is of Earliest Serial Numbers (so far). Another explanation is that you now have the earliest known serial number for a 41CV halfnut. Smile

Nice thought but talking to the guys and girls around design team, 1983 is the concept of a reduced IC package which eventually became the halfnut. Production started around 85.

See this:

Geoff (my CL is 1933axxxxx)

Edited: reason: corrected the dates thanks to Dave, you are right, production in 85, concept in 83.

That early! It didn't appear on the cover of the CHHU Chronicle until July '85. The back cover on my 41CX is from a doner, so it has a serial number switcheroo, too.
