If I press TOOL -> NXT, CASCH and HELP do exactly the same thing. I find this quite strange since there's no need to use two different keys for the same thing. Am I missing something?.

They are both large documents, with little duplication. Though I think the intention was one is a introduction, and the other for reference, in fact to really learn all of the machine you will need to read (or at least reference) both volumes.
