RE: New Version: 2015.06.17
By using Qt, HP already chose the right technology to make the computer software related to the Prime portable. Now it "only" needs to be made portable for real, like libhpcalcs was from pretty much day 1 (thanks to using a portable library), nearly 21 months ago.
Many bonus points for making the communication layer interoperable, open source, under a permissive license. However, allocating extra developer time and hardware resources is a business / management decision... Targeting minority platforms (MacOS X, even more Linux / FreeBSD / other computer OS) or popular platforms which have represented a minority of new sales in many countries for a while and whose stewardship imposes various annoying impediments and artificial restrictions to developers (iOS) may arguably not be a priority for business. The existing developers clearly already have much work fixing bugs and expanding features for the existing platforms, as well as helping end users (something neither Casio staff, nor TI staff does) on this message board (mostly), don't they ? |

RE: New Version: 2015.06.17
Oh, I meant that many bonus points would be awarded if HP made their reference computer-side implementation of the communication layer open source, under a permissive license.
For instance, maintained in a Github repository that people can contribute to, like libti* and libhpcalcs are. The communication specs are no secret. At the time of this writing, the most advanced and reliable third-party implementation (and therefore documentation) of these protocols remains libhpcalcs. |

RE: New Version: 2015.06.17
Hello all,
I am a brand new (as of today) HP Prime user (G8X92AA 2015 Version). How does one get the Prime to display what version of code is currently installed in it? Thanks very much in advance. smp |

Although it SEEMS to be a single line, it actually contains carriage returns between the lines... but carriage returns are not displayed in the history. You can see the *real* contents of VERSION by executing: PRINT(VERSION) The result will look very familiar. <0|ɸ|0> -Joe- |

RE: New Version: 2015.06.17
Hello,
I only run Linux on my computers, and I have a virtual Windows XP where I run my connectivity kit. Since the new CK doesn't work on XP anymore, does this mean that I can't update my Prime any more? Upgrading Windows is not an option. Can I just download the firmware and install it using the older CK, and if so, how? Thanks, Cristian |
