I just received my DM41L and I'm delighted , it's a gem ;-)
The build quality is excellent and the keyboard provides a good typing comfort . The key layout is very practical.
I think the font is too thin , maybe Michael could offer us a firmware with a bolder font ? ;-)

Yes it does - sort of. You can create the byte grabber using the standard method, I keyed in LB using it as well, but it had some problems running. I might have keyed it incorrectly, but I did it multiple times. I don't recall the exact profile of the problem, but I got multiple MEMORY LOST conditions playing with it. Those could also be due to operator error, but maybe not. Crashes are more tolerable on this machine because you can load and save the calculator state easily over USB.

Yes, I have done more research and discovered the answer but your experience is very interesting. Thanks for the reply. I have been using the i412CX and love it. I have the PPC ROM installed and that makes it a breeze.

This is definitely on my wish list. Also have to dig my 41s out of storage. At least one is in desperate need of repair and the card reader also needs a new roller.

It may still be a month to my 41st birthday, but the DM 41L has arrived at my house. I am very happy with the keyboard and the display. Kudos to Swiss Micros.

Make sure you have firmware V25 on it. We did some internal reorganisation of the firmware and managed to cram a virtual X-Mem module into its RAM, giving you a total of 362 X-Mem registers.

How did you get the extra memory? I just upgraded to V25 and don't see the X-Mem module when I run CAT 2.

CAT 2 only shows plugged in ROM modules, not RAM modules. Try CAT 4 (the Extended Memory catalog) and see if it puts 362 on the stack.

Extended memory is totally separate from the normal main memory (319 is right). CAT-4 is a shortcut for the EMDIR command which lists all the files stored in Extended Memory, and then leaves the amount of free (available) Extended Memory on the stack (in X) so immediately after CAT-4, the number you see is the amount of X-Mem available. It should be 362.

Yes, CAT 4 shows a DIR EMPTY message, but after clearing that message (e.g. by a backspace) what number is left on the stack? That's the number of Extended Memory registers you have. The 319 registers of memory that you have are main memory, not extended memory.

Alternatively, run EMROOM and it skips straight to the part where it returns the number of free X-Mem registers in X.

NB: This works on the 41CX and on the DM41(L), not on the 41C or CV with X-Func module.

Now I will need to learn how to access them. I spent some time programming the DM 41L and started keeping a record of my programs on an index card booklet.

If anyone asks, yes, I definitely recommend the DM 41L (if you want the smaller calculator, the DM 41)! It's a high quality calculator.
