Windows 10 won't allow HP50g usb drivers to be installed
I have installed Windows 10 on an iMac BootCamp setup. Windows 10 works fine, and I finally got around to attempting to install the HP-50g USB drivers from the CD that came with my HP50g.

I immediately ran into the unsigned driver problem: Win10 refuses to install an unsigned driver.

There is a circumvention; you must disable the signed driver enforcement.

I have done this (at least I followed the 2 different procedures that purport to disable driver signing checks), but it still fails with "no permission for driver install".

These are the two separate techniques to disable the signed driver check:
1) Reboot and press F8 during the reboot; eventually you are given an option to disable the signed driver check, and then your system reboots again, with the check disabled. Attempting the HP50g USB driver install fails with the same message.

2) Start up a cmd terminal session with admin authority, and enter the command "BCDEDIT /set nointegritychecks ON", then reboot again to enable this change. Following that reboot, the HP50g USB install fails with the same message.

Is there anyway out of this impass?

RE: Windows 10 won't allow HP50g usb drivers to be installed
This *may* be a "64-bit Windows" issue than a "Windows 10" issue (assuming your Windows 10 I installation is 64-bit). AFAIK, 64-bit versions of Windows require signed drivers I would search to see if there is a 64-bit version of the driver online.

I had to log on as username: administrator. No other user (even though the user has administrative rights) seemed to work for me.

That's why I haven't upgraded yet. Not a mature OS yet.

For win 7, I had to install a driver for 64-bit, that I found at hpcalc.org. The drivers included in the 50g CD do not work in 64-bit OS.

Good luck.

Cheers

Latest drivers from HP are here (includes 32/64-bit on Win-7, which should also work on Win-8 and Win-10.)

Drivers JLouis mentions are here. (I hate to find an answer, but no pointer to where it is... just sayin)

I think they are both the same installer

Since the link is the same, yes, they are. ;)

RE: Windows 10 won't allow HP50g usb drivers to be installed
One very good reason NOT to upgrade from Win7 to Win10 (especially on BootCamp). With Win10's propensity to update with or without the user's permission, that is a further disincentive -- there's no guarantee that a Microsoft update will not scupper HP's connectivity for a while, or for ever -- in light of the pace with which HP's connectivity kit stays current with operating system versions.

RE: Windows 10 won't allow HP50g usb drivers to be installed
The problem here is that the driver could never be signed because there was something in the HW that caused it to fail the verification process on some obscure part of the MS testing process. In order to fix it, the hardware would need to change some components to be compliant and get the signature. This never was a problem in the real world, and not being signed wasn't an issue either until signing as a requirement became forced, but by then the 50g was considered a legacy product and then shortly later discontinued due to the internal chips disappearing completely.

Since everyone was always just using the SD card primarily anyway, it never was much of a problem. I think the only think you *can't* do with the SD card is take a direct screenshot.

Could you please indicate how you solved the problem - I am also trying to install the USB driver for my HP50g, but without success. Thanks!

I installed the drivers mentioned in rprosperi's post of 12-23-2015 02:29 AM.

Those installed with no problems.

Good luck!

Thanks! For some reason this does not work for me. The v1.3 USB driver install fails on my windows 10 system and the connectivity kit does not manage to establish a connection.

Any hints?

When you run the USB driver installer, Right-click on the .exe file and click on 'Run as Administrator". This may be needed, depending on many small things in your system. Also, the account you are using must have Administrative rights as well.

With Windows 10, I must allow install of unsigned driver. See below

It works fine on my laptop W10 64bits

Allow install of unsigned driver fixed the problem for me
This is exactly what I needed to know, so now I have the connectivity kit working on my Windows 10 Pro system.

Thank you for the pointer.
