[wp34s] Looking for prog. cable
I'm sad to inform that today I definitely hanged two more wp34s machines during flashing. They are fully dead, not even responsive thru the JTAG interface.

For the first one I received a BSOD during flashing => machine dead.

For the second one it, simply, stopped the communication with MySamba during flashing => machine dead.

I once owned 7 such machines, now I only have 3, the other 4 bricked during flashing. A true record.

Does anybody have a true hp programming cable for sale? (best in Europe as, otherwise, shipping cost will be a nonsense)

Regards.

Wow :./
I can lend you my USB-TTL converter, though not HP original at all. BTW, it costed €0.7, shipping included from China... simply unbelievable.
César, remember I am based in Madrid too.

RE: [wp34s] Looking for prog. cable
Thanks Luigi, but I'm not sure at all why I continue bricking calculators. I suspect that the USB-serial converter (another cheap chinese one) + some messy wires I use can be the culprit, so I want to use a genuine hp cable plus a genuine FTDI USB-serial converter. I do have got now the FTDI converter and want to locate the hp cable.

Thanls & regards.

Just to be sure, the old cable was USB-LVTTL with flying leads and the new cable is USB-RS232 with a DB-9 connector to mate to the HP cable.

FTIW, cable plugs are not difficult to make.

What is the power you are using for flashing? 2xCR2032 battery?
I had a similar problem, which was solved by an external 3V power supply.

Be aware that some 30b's have only one battery connected.

I'm now powering the machine from the USB to serial converter, but I also bricked them when powering with batteries.

The cable I was looking for is such with the 6 pogo pins, but I'm looking for the original hp one.

Thanks & regards.

I was referring to the original HP cable, as in this link: http://hhuc.us/2008/Interfacing%20to%20t...b%20V3.pdf

It requires a USB-RS232 adapter.

I know. I do now have a FTDI USB to RS232 converter.

Thanks & regards.

Yours looks formidable indeed.

What materials did you use - I am interested in the specs of the sheet metal! - and how did you bond them to the pin block?

Thank you!

I sold off extra parts years ago: http://www.hpmuseum.org/forum/thread-609.html

Note that the ribbon cable assembly can be had for FREE from Samtec if you request samples.

I discovered that after use the pogo pins got bent a little causing the pogo to become a NOGO and not make contact. To help support the pin an extra IDC housing can be slid over the pins and taped in place, as in the above pic.

The brass strip came from the local hobby shop, specs in the link.
