Is this a legit 12C Platinum?

Hi,

I ordered this one on amazon.de and during all my research, I could not find the model number (PHA63102WN) or any hints on a 12Cp produced in Philippines.

Is this manufactoring site pretty new? What do I have here?

Aren't you dead?

It's a fairly recent production model, evidenced by the dual battery door. I don't know just when, but production in the Philippines is also relatively recent. Is the number you supplied above a model number or serial number?

It's on the sticker of the device. I can only guess it's a serial number. There is no obvious model number visible to me.

Found in a thread on HP website forum:

See here for the release date. For the serial number the typical format is to have the 4th, 5th, and 6th characters to reference when the product was built. The first character is the year date (Y) and the next two (WW), the week in that year it was made.

Assume it is 2016 in your case.

You can check the speed of the machine in your hands very easy:
Program:

GTO 01

Then in run mode fill the stack with all numbers 1.
Then run the program for 1 minute.
Old slow processor gives about 500 in the display, ARM processor (machine titled 12C+ here) over 70000 or even more.

So, it's the 02WN'th unit produced in the 31st week of 2016, in Philippines factory "A".

Did you purchase it new? I assume not, since you noted you cannot find a model number, which would have been on the pkg. Assuming not, it's quite young to have already been sold by the original buyer...

It was a so called Warehouse Deal. The condition of the product is good and - despite I have no experience with the 12C and lack a comparison - feels good and authentic.

I have just printed the manual and gave it my assistance to bind it.

Hi,

isn't the 12C+ just an emulated 12C while the Platinum does have a different firmware (emulated or not)? I do not own any of the 12X calculators, unfortunately.

In a sense, yes the 12C+ is emulated, in that this label is used to denote 12C machines that are running on an ARM processor emulating the original CPU, which are running the original f/w (with the obvious very minor tweaks needed to allow the emulation to work properly - e.g. adjustments for timing loops, etc.).

The 12C Platinum (12CP) has additional functions (e.g. Algebraic operation, Undo, etc.) and is marketed as the 'step-up' from the classic 12C.

There have been multiple versions of both ARM-powered '12C+' and '12CP' models, as the specific cpu models used have been discontinued by the mfr.
