48G thousands separator in Standard number?

Just for my own education, which of the several number formats that exist in the world is standard format? My Google searches didn't help.

The 48G/GX supports 2 number formats: 123,456,789.00 and 123.456.789,00. The mode is selected by having flag 51 cleared or set, respectively. Cleared is the default mode. Right in the MODES menu: number format choice is Std (Standard), Fix, Sci, Eng.
You can't have thousand separators in Std mode

Yes, but choice of radix is unrelated to the presence or not of thousands delimiters.

I must say that most implementation sucks on this regard. Here where I live the comma is the official decimal mark, while the dot is not in use and the thousand separation is mostly done with space. Since the nation is small there is not much market specific models around so people use dot and comma intuitively on computing devices for the decimal point (or radix if you prefer). The worst systems are the ones that mix the dot and comma, 15C is almost unusable in this regard and it still at times leaves me wondering what does read on the display.


The problem is not the radix, but the urge to mix the dot and comma with the thousand separation. I personally use dot in 50g because IIRC the comma as a radix introduced some quirks to the UI (or were it the dot as thousand separation *yak*).

Edit2. I just noticed that 50g also uses this thousand separiation thing, no wonder I always keep it in ENG mode.

IIRC (from a mockup picture) WP43S will allow much more choices in this regard

HP Prime does have around 10 different choices, including small spaces for 1000 separators...

However, using , as a separator on a high end calc has its own issues.. Among others the fact that , is used as an arguement separator and ; as an instruction separator...
So, in , mode, we have some conflicts to deal with.

It is a good thing to hear that the "small space" is an option in Prime. It seems to be also ISO and BIPM recommended format for digit grouping.

I wonder what hex value one should modify on 50g rom to change the digit grouping symbol from ie. comma to char(184) or char(180) while radix is a dot. I would think the masking is done only in one place in the ROM. Even 0001BD60 to 0001BE60 type of answer would give an idea where to look.

But you could try the SpeedUI stack interface, which (amongst many other things) offers a thousands separator display option:-)

Only if you install all bells and whistles;-)

A while ago I made a version of SpeedUI which will run on an unexpanded 48G with 32K RAM.

Currently the minimal "normal" setup (CF,UI,UFL) is about 55K in size,
the version with lite UI is about 27K in size.
