Hi all,

I see no mention of units being manufactured in the Philippines, but I have a Platinum that was manufactured there. It has the two CR 2032 batteries, and a black key background, and includes the parenthesis, backspace etc. The back is not printed on like earlier models, but has the metal type plate.
Anyone have any ideas where these fit in along the timeline of manufacture?

Production in the Philippines only began a few years ago at most, which is also consistent with a 2-battery wide door on a 12CP.

Are they (12c and platinum) all now manufactured in Philippines rather than China?

I've been using my Chinese made platinum with the silver key background as my daily but if the Philippines ones are the current lot I think I'll switch to using that and keep the other one as part of my collection. Would hate to damage or lose the silver one as it would be difficult to replace.

I honestly don't know about production sites, but I'll ask Tim at HHC in September.

The Silver 12CP machines were produced for a couple years, so somewhat available, but the black-faced versions are far more numerous. I'd 'retire' the Silver 12CP to the collection.

Also, the newer versions use MUCH faster processors; this is dramatically noticeable with programs, but not so much in real-time number-crunching, except if you're solving for interest rate (which is iterative) which can take a moment on the older machines.

Have to admit just a little jealousy.

Dave,
I had come across that blue keyed photo before and fell in love/lust. I think from memory there was only 3 made?

I might be wrong but I think the Bondi had no parenthesis, backspace, despite being a platinum? I also read that it had "bugs" and the algebraic wasn't fully implemented but don't know the specifics. My silver backed one is the other model.

Hi Keith,

I hadn't seen your post before my last reply. Somehow I had come across your collection before, it's very impressive. I don't think I'll ever be able to gather together such a large collection, but I'll be happy to pick up what I can.

I just bought an original 12c on ebay (australia) from a guy that use to work for HP; he is the original owner but just doesn't need it any more. It's a little beaten up but he says that it was the calculator that he carried "in the field" for a long time. I've just bid on a near perfect 19bii that he is selling as well, with it's original carry pouch and manual.
I'll have to ask him what he actually did for HP, he said he bought several of the clamshell HP's after his retirement, and said those were what he was using almost exclusively at work in his final years. I see that he just recently sold a 28c, a 620lx and an OmniGo100. So he has stayed loyal to HP's products for a long time. Makes me wonder what else he's got laying around his house...

I believe there is at least one more version of the so-called "12C+" that has been out in the wild since ~ late 2015. The CPU was changed to the SAM4L series, with more details discussed starting with this post and photos in this post. Even though things still look the same externally, does it warrant its own entry on the list?
