Hi all,

I've been sourcing parts for the multi calculator and I believe I can put a kit together for about $Aus50.00 + postage.

I can build and test the calculators for those who don't have the expertise. The finished kits will be just the circuit board so either adhesive feet can be stuck the board or a case would have to be made. Maybe a simple clear acrylic top so that a key layout could be fitted.

I don't wish to make a profit on the kit, so the price is what the parts will cost me.

If anyone is interested, let me know and I'll start work on it. I'll need a minimum of 10 to keep the cost to a minimum as some parts have to be sourced from different suppliers.

Actually, I'd likely be after two or three, probably for Harald's classic replacement board though.

Hi all,

I just drew up a mock up of what the board will look like.

The design is a bit different because the bubble LEDs are no longer manufactured, and the odd ones that are available, are expensive now.

I have found some LED displays for a good price, but they are about 10% larger so will cause the PCB to be oversized if the LEDs are placed along the top edge like the Classics. The board will be similar in layout to the 10 series LCD type.

The two switches are for power and TMR/(PGM/RUN).

I've ordered some parts today.

When they arrive I will verify the parts sizes etc and make sure they work with the PCB design and then get them made.

I'd definitely consider a kit, if it's simple through-hole soldering, and the shipping to USA isn't outrageous.

Hi Dave,

Mostly surface mount components, but the PCB is designed for hand soldering of these parts. If you cant put it together, I can do it.

Usually in the Aus$6.00 range for general postage including the postpak.

I'd love one, but if it's SMT, I'd have to ask you to do the soldering. I don't mind doing other assembly.

To be clear, is this a complete calculator, or just the CPU board?

Which subsystems are included, among:

CPU/RAM/ROM(s)
Power supply
Keyboard
Display

And does the board have a USB interface (e.g. for updating and/or loading/saving programs/data?)

Note the bold but clear indications of addiction here: "I'll take one please, but what exactly is it?"

I would love to know more before I decide to add my name to the list.
The questions that come to mind are:
1. How much does the kit cost? Cost with assembly?
2. Does the board require an old HP calculator to complete the kit?
3. If so which old HP calculators are compatible with the keyboard spacing?
4. If it is compatible with an HP-35 and HP-45 then how can it be compatible with
and HP-25, because the two are very different in keyboard spacing and size?
5. Do you need to provide your own display? Display drivers? Display board?
6. Do you plan to offer a complete calculator kit including display, keyboard,
I realize that a case is beyond the capability of home-brew kit designers, but
if it resembled the NP-25 board for example where it was a fully functioning calculator with buttons and display, but no case that would be very nice.

I only ask these questions, because from the descriptions in the thread thus far
it is not obvious what the kit includes.
