I have just acquired a functional TI-53 and updated my original post accordingly.

This was one of the first keystroke programmable calculators that I laid my hands on. You had to think about what you were doing when you only had 32 program steps to play with

Yep, the 38G is definitely the ugly duckling! It is a grey brick with a poor display and key design, worse than the 48S/G series.
To its defense however, it has to be acknowledged that it is the predecessor of the 39G series, and ultimately to the Prime. It was the first one that introduced "Aplets", entities that have been called programs since then, and can be discovered as "Apps" in the Prime. These Aplets were "Function", "Parametric", "Polar", "Sequence", "Solve" and "Statistics" - this should be familiar to Prime users. To my knowledge, it was also the first HP calc which was aimed to high school students. In conclusion, it was an alpha version that HP tried to sell to the public.

My wife keeps telling me to start putting price tags on each piece in my small and modest collection (just over 150 calcs and counting, not to mention my other vintage radios collection).
Now, I wonder why should I do such an inventory with that detail... should I start worrying about my remaining lifetime on this world?

Are those Texas SR-50A in red boxes at the right?
And it seems there is at least one SR-40 and a SR-50 stacked there as well?

I do too. Although it looked similar to an HP-48 series in its construction, it was not even close to the same quality. The battery contacts were of an extremely poor design. They relied on foam for battery retention and the despite the fact that I almost had to use a vise to get the AAA batteries in place and the non-soldered contact "wires" still manage to have poor contact with the PCB. I feel soiled just talking about it. I need to go take a shower now.

This may be too much to ask but could we have also a ranking of Actual Use instead of ownership? At least, top 3? I wonder if 50g, Prime, and 15C might be top contenders there. And 12C for people in the financial industry.
