I don't know Python, either, but it's just a matter of installing the tools. After that it's just like using a different version of ILPer.

Here're the steps to get the text file back into the 71.

Code:

1. Download and extract HPDir from the HPDir Project webpage to your working directory. http://www.hp9845.net/9845/projects/hpdir/
2. Open a command window in your working directory
3. Create a blank LIF disc image
   Execute "HPDIR -initialize -lif -9122 MYLIF.lif" where "MYLIF.lif" is the name you've chosen for your LIF disc image.
4. Copy the text file to the disc image
   Execute "HPDIR -add -c MYLIF.lif FOO.txt" where "FOO.txt" is the name of the DOS text file.  Be sure to capitalize the text filename.
5. Open ILPer and connect to the 71B as you've done before
6. In the Mass Storate control Drive HP9114B:, select MYLIF.lif
7. On the 71B, execute "COPY FOO:TAPE"
