HP-42S
Having finally come to the conclusion that I’ll never find a working ‘real’ HP-42S or HP-97 for sale less than the National Debt of the UK, I thought about this:-
I have a couple of redundant iPhones (iPhone 4, 5s and 7 SE - is there a way to get rid of all the apps and have only one app, namely Thomas’ Free42 which auto loads when the phone is switched on? Denny Tuckerman |

If you don't want to look at all of the apps on the home screen that you can't delete, just move them into one or more folders. Even that is unnecessary. The best way to get what you want is to open the Free42 app and never exit it. Then leave the phone permanently on and plug it into a charger when not in use (or at night). In this way Free42 will always be loaded and instantly ready whenever you wake the phone. You can also get rid of any passwords to make waking it faster. |

RE: HP-42S
I don't know if the current build of Free42 will work on the 4 or 5S (the whole 32/64 bit thing), but I think the 7 SE is new enough to run it.
You could also consider the Swiss Micros DM42. They've made substantial improvements to the keyboard, and I have no complaints about making it my daily use machine now. |

The current build of Free42 won't run on the iPhone 4, but it will run on the 4S or later. It supports 32-bit but requires iOS 8.0 or later, and that version of iOS doesn't run on the iPhone 4 or earlier. iPod touch, 5th gen. or later, should also do the job. |

Before I got my DM42, Free42 on an iPod touch was my go-to on my desk; I just don’t use it for anything else. I also installed i41cx, which is quite nice if you want a 41 emulator. |

RE: HP-42S
I just tried this on my ancient iPod Touch (iOS 4.2) and it did offer to “download an older version” (Free42 1.4.74) that worked great.

RE: HP-42S
In any of its android version.4 ... version10 on the home screen, I can hide/stop/delete all applications except the most necessary ones:
In android, you can even never install a SIM and do not deal with a telecom operator, using free services using WiFi (mobile communication with 60 countries, the Internet, etc.). At least that`s the way things are in my democratic colony. |
