RE: HP Prime Beta Firmware Version 2.2 Revision 15008
Good to see firmware is being worked on.
I have installed the BETA on both G1 and G2. G2 seems to be work fine with apps created on prior versions of firmware, based on my quick testing. G1, still has the WAIT(-1) bug, whicih baffles me why it's still not getting fixed. Stuck on 2020-01-16 firmware version for G1 until that gets fixed. |

It does not mean that they are shouting at you.) However, that emulator is not available on modern Androids. Stephen Lewkowicz (G1CMZ) https://my.numworks.com/python/steveg1cmz |

It also occurs to me that if someone bought an HP Prime recently enough, after the Python app became available then they might argue that it is important. But that wasn't the case for me. There are lots of options out there for Python fans. Not so many without. I think all the top-tier calculators come with Python which is why I chose the Prime as an alternative. I still think the Prime is a marvellous calculator/hand-held computer. |

I hope the next version will allow us to save files in the Python app without having to duplicate the app. I am using Python more and hope to include the HP Prime in that journey.

The actual device wasn't in the shops, so I went with the Android emulator - which had the advantage of always available, and code could be cut-and-pasted online without worrying about cables/wifi for connectivity. Since then, it's availability has slowly withered away: You needed to be online, or it crashed; you needed an old android, or it didn't exist; and the emulator still lacks Python, which is now available on several other calculators. In the meantime, Numworks simply works (although keydown is dreadful). Stephen Lewkowicz (G1CMZ) https://my.numworks.com/python/steveg1cmz |

I think the Python environment is important nowadays. I hope the new firmware address the bugs of the Python environment on HP Prime, which is very buggy.

Speaking of python, I think I used to be able to click on the SYMB or NUm key on the selected python program but now on g1 it resets the CALC AND ON G2 THE CALC freezes and have to hit the reset button. I don't think that happened on prev version i can still select it with enter and then every thing is ok using the num or symb

In my very limited experience with the Python app, when main.py contains a syntax error and when I try to open the Python app, if I choose to run the program instead of edit the program, it hangs and I have to reset the prime with a paperclip. Maybe this is why your prime was locking up. For instance, last night when I was trying the beta, there was also some weirdness when it put "New Program" before my import statements as I exited the app. This caused the app to hang when I opened it, because obviously "New Programimport" is not valid Python syntax. I am unsure if either of these issues were present on the previous firmware either, this was my first time really diving into Python on the prime. |

Hi Klaas,
Are the macOS versions of the connectivity kit and (more relevant to me) the Prime Virtual going to be released with the new firmware too? The macOS Virtual Prime is still on 2.1.14425. Cheers, Jon. 10C, 11C, 12C, 15C LE, 15C CE, 16C, 21, 32S 50th aniv., 32Sii, 35 v4, 35S, 42S, 97, Prime G1 |

RE: HP Prime Beta Firmware Version 2.2 Revision 15008
Well, I definitely seem to be in the minority here. I suppose the herd goes where it goes.
But on a practical note, how much memory does Python use? Can I remove it from my calculator? You know, I can't help thinking if I were hanging out in a Linux forum with all the kool kiddies, and someone brought up the issue of an unwanted app being installed without a user's consent, the howls of protest and righteous indignation would be great indeed. Maybe, I should just let it go? Or drop my HP Prime in the trash. |

Just remember, though, that you aren't the center of the universe which is what your original post sounded like you thought. PPL will continue to develop and so will Python. It's not a zero-sum game where, in order to develop Python, they have to reduce work on PPL. Tom L Cui bono? |
