Looks like a fantastic agenda! Could there be room for one more visitor / participant? I could bring the smdPIL-Box and talk about it? Not as cool and innovative as the other talks but maybe still of interest. And its just a few hours drive from Munich.

Cheers,

PeterP

RE: Stuttgart HP Meeting 2024 (replacement Allschwil)
Hi There,
great Idea - I definitely plan to attend if space is still available.

I may bring along the HP71B i aquired some time ago, details of which are mentioned in this post:

https://www.hpmuseum.org/forum/thread-18697.html

Unfortunately, I've lost Access to my Pil BOX. If someone else is bringing their's along with some IL cabling, we might try to do a live dump of the W&W Module(s) mentioned in my initial post. AFAIK these have not been dumped before.

Looking forward to meet fellow Calculator Aficionados.

Best Regards, Jan

Stay healthy and keep calculating,
Jan

This meeting sounds like it will be a good one, I'm frustrated that I cannot attend.

To copy the ERPOM contents all you need (along with the Pil-Box and IL-Per) is the ROMCOPY LEX file which will let you copy the entire ROM image to a single file in a single command. Let me know if you need a .lif volume/file with that LEX file to be ready to do it.

I've been waiting since your initial post to see these rare files, so wishing you success and looking forward to seeing the results.

Thanks for your kind offer to attempts this at the meeting,

Oh, this is too close to miss, I am located about 20 minutes from the meeting location and has the 71B as my main interest (looking at the agenda...this fits!).
I am however in Munich for an event those 2 days, but IF this gets moved, you can count on me (if there is a seat available, still). I should know early October

Gruß, Kim - 71083

Rob, thank you for your kind offer of support. I perused https://holyjoe.net/HP71/TitanFileComple...ection.pdf and downloaded http://hhuc.us/2014/files/Speakers/08,09...lexfl1.dat which seems to contain what is needed for this endeavour.

Maybe you can confirm that this is what's needed.

Member floppy already sent PM with requirements / details etc. and judging from his Sig, he may be able to provide a PIL Box and some IL cabling - so it may seem like we are set for some good fun. I'll bring a Laptop along as well as a camera - so we might be able to document our archaeology session.

Sorry for missing to meet you in person, but who knows - maybe there's a chance in 2025 either in the EU or even in the US.

Best regards, Jan

Thanks a lot Peter - if I have to go it is the two full days Thursday pm until Sunday morning, if not, I am 20 minutes away from the meeting loc.

But now I am curious - what brings a Glaswegian lad to MUC Smile it is usually love or work… something to chat about if I make it…

Cheers, Kim

This topic is welcome. https://47calc.com/
Now, the questions are:
a) who will lead the talks? Please give me the name of an attendee then I will put it on the agenda
b) there will be a presentation or anything hardware demonstration or any hint of updates in the C47 internet project page for side discussions?

RE: Stuttgart HP Meeting 2024 (replacement Allschwil)
This could be a good place to demo DB48X as well. Can you make a bit of room in the agenda for that?

I believe it could be of interest to explain how to re-create an HP48-inspired RPL environment from scratch, what it currently does and fails to do compared to HP calculators, or discuss issues related to putting arbitrary-precision arithmetic in a pocket calculator. My objective would be mostly to gather feedback from HP enthusiasts (notably those of the RPL tribe) about what they would like or what they expect from a modern HP-inspired calculator.

I have some presentation material already, notably derived from talks I gave at FOSDEM.

The only thing is that I have a conflict that week-end with the Replay festival happing around the same dates. Tough choice. I can probably do a bit of both if I fly late.

RE: Stuttgart HP Meeting 2024 (replacement Allschwil)
Hello,

as I have suggested a "flashing service" for the meeting in Stuttgart with the purpose of
a) modifiying HP-20b and HP-30b calculators into either WP-34S or WP-31S and
b) helping attendees to install the latest firmware onto their HP-15C CE units,
I want to provide some more information.

Additionally to the flashing itself, I can offer to perform the hardware "hacks" on the HP-20/30b which will enable them to run their clocks more accurately and communicate with infrared printers. I would do that in a corner of the room during the meeting whilst subjects are discussed (e.g. HP-48 related) to which I can not contribute anything.

For that purpose I have already ordered (and received) crystals, capacitors, IR diodes and resistors for 10 (IR printing) and 20 (clock) calculator modifications. I need two of these for myself and one for Pascal, so there are plenty of parts remaining. As they are dirt cheap I will just give them away and/or install them for free, but at the calculator owners risk ;-)

Next, for the WP-3xS modification, keyboard overlays will be required. I have experimented a little with my printer, but got inconsistent results. Therefore I decided to order these overlays from forum member "spiff72". He also provides overlays for Swiss Micros modifications and New RPL (see here: https://www.hpmuseum.org/forum/thread-20113.html) so other attendees might be interested to join in a group order as well. He asks between 5 and 7 dollars per set of stickers plus shipping and import duties, in any case well below 10$ if we order sufficient quantities.

Because of the time it can take to order things in the USA, I would like to place the order as soon as possible and therefore kindly ask, who would be intersted in which of these keyboard overlays (see the link above about what is avilable)!

So far I have prepared an old Windows laptop with the software and disk images required to provide the "flashing service". I also have the cable for flashing the new calculators (HP-15C CE and some variants of the HP-12C). But I am still searching for my flashing cable for the HP-20/30b - I know it is somewhere, but I am progressing slowly through my heaps of boxes. It is like the "towers of Hanoi" only that there is no space left for the third "LIFO" tower. In case I don't find the cable until the meeting date it would be helpful if one of the attendees could bring one along.

And one more thing: Unfortunately, german calculator shop "Dynatech" seems to have ended their HP-20b sale (at 9 Euros a piece). But they still list them for 20 Euros, which is a good price, in case anyone need a donor to be flashed into a WP calculator.

Regards
Max

Wish I could attend!!!

Will the presentations be recorded and video available after, and will the presentation materials (PowerPoint or documents, etc.) also be available? It would be appreciated by the entire community if someone could make effort to do these things to preserve and share the materials with all the folks that cannot attend.
