Would a 71B emulator fit ... ?
Hi!
This looks like an interesting project: CL-32 What if it was possible to fit a 71B emulator into the esp32 ... The keys are there, and the display could show more then just the single line - maybe even the HP-72S could be done with space for more info, like memory status and port configuration etc ... I'm just dreaming - but could be fun to give it a try ... How would you implement HP-IL?

(08-22-2024 08:24 PM)Dave Frederickson Wrote: How would you implement HP-IL? The TULIP4041 (see elsewhere on this forum) will be able to emulate HP-IL over USB to a PC, and if the PC is connected to a PIL- box, any real HP-IL devices can be used too, so a 41 will be able to use HP-IL without the interface module. Since there seems to be some extension ports on the CL-32 device, then maybe (I'm just speculating now) a similar Pico device could be connected and emulate HP-IL over USB. Maybe even directly to a PIL-box, or a similar setup as with the TULIP4041 device, allowing HP-IL devices to be controlled from the CL-32. Again, I have not looked into it, I was just curious when I saw the form factor of this device, so I don't know if it is realistic or not. But if someone says it can't be done, then that is usually a strong motivation factor for me ... Wow! That CL-32 really does scream out wanting to have 71B running on it; one might suspect, looking at the form factor, the creator had even seen and been inspired by a 71B in the past... A 71b with lots of speed and a screen that large would truly be a dream machine for me.
But I don't know Thomas... looks like it can't be done... ;-) --Bob Prosperi |

I did receive an informal request to create a TULIP-like device for the HP71, but I have no knowledge of this device and the bus is very different. But certainly not impossible.
And it is foreseen (but not tested) to connect the upcoming new PILBox directly to a spare serial port on the TULIP to connect to real HP-IL devices Regards, Meindert |
