Could you please provide me a little example (raw file preferred) of a HP-41 program with synthetic strings? You can also use the "View" function of the drive directory listing to obtain the FOCAL code of a HP-41 progam file.

RE: pyILPER 1.6.0 and LIFUTILS 1.7.7 final release
hi,
I'm trying but I need some help, as I get an error "illegal retval" and in the same time "not connected to pilbox". PILBOX is ok on COM3 (Windows) and works well with ILCtrl.

Thanks!
Salvo

sorry, for now I'm inattentive, happy doing experiments with PILbox, new toy for me...
thank you Dave, I'll read there.

EDIT:
Found (in Mac OS X): it works with 115200 and not with 230400 Bd in configuration of PILbox

Salvo, the PIL-Box has a jumper that sets the baud-rate option 115KB or 230KB. The 230KB is obviously faster, but the 'feeling' is even faster than it sounds and I recommend using 230KB if you can; I am fairly sure it will work at 230KB on OSX, but what s/w are you using?

IL-Per under some Windows subsystem (parallels, etc.) or pyILPer ?

hi Bob,
I'm testing pyILPer now.
Today I set cables and started with PILbox and I saw the jumper set was the #2; should I test put in in #3?

Joachim

Thanks a lot, Joachim!
I'm enjoying very much with this program and PILbox (I find very good also ILper).
Installed with a glitch both in Mac OS X 10.13.3 and Windows 10 (inside Parallels 13).
I'm testing HP-41CX and HP-71b.

I'd like to have a set of preconfigured programs (LIF...) where to pick and install in the calculator (using the program not only to backup all - very important job - or printing, very amazing to get PDF from the "old machines")... Like a sort or "repository" (two series, for 71B and 41C) or "carry and cash (without cash)" of programs Smile
About this purpose, it would be nice to could edit the virtual devices (disks, LIF, DAT...) to put (not only delete) programs to load, then, in the calculator; with the goal to share nice configurations, sets,...
EDIT: though I'm testing to import with Tools from some ROMs, it is not exactly what I'd prefer: I would like to import some parts by a list of programs in them, not the whole ROM...

No, JP3 is not used.

JP2 - Jumper ON - 115KB
JP2 - Jumper OFF - 230KB

So just remove the jumper.

ok!
Then, removing JP2 now in Mac OS X the program runs at 230KB (and returns "illegal retval at 115KB).
For me is ok, thanks for advice.

JP3 fixes an issue with some 1A HP-IL modules for the 71B.

Sorry, Dave's right, I was not clear; JP3 is not used for setting baud rate...

Understood, thanks Smile
For now I'll keep JP2 off and JP3 off; if there will be issues I'll try JP3 on.
I checked JP2 off in Mac OS X and Windows 10 also: ok with 230kb in pyILper and ILCtrl. Also in Windows, now at 115KB pyILper returns "illegal retval".

Great, looks like all is working properly.

You'll love the PIL-Box and wonder how you got along without one for so long. Smile
